The Data Smog Generation is the first official project and concept album by the one and only post-internet legend Potted Plant. This project tells the story of a man who previously grew up in the information age and was raised primarily by the internet due to being unaccepted in real life, but after everything unexpectedly changed for the worse as he grew up, he is now forced to accept the new world, all while trying to come to a grip with the harsh reality. Thus, he starts to grow increasingly depressed, and tries to find a way to stay content with existence, in a collapsing world with an increasingly violent social and political climate.

With surreal, avant-garde and provocative themes mixed with modern internet culture themes, The Data Smog Generation is an experiment in pushing and defying the absolute boundaries of the modern music industry's perceived norms that doesn’t pull any punches. With usage of several unusual samples from around the internet throughout, distorted and loud 808 drums, collaborations with other unique artists and occasional genre shifts from track to track or even within tracks, The Data Smog Generation provides any new listener a unique listening experience. The surreal track artwork provided for every song on the album serves to reinforce this, and an equally weird music video for the whole project, barring the bonus tracks, can also be watched on YouTube, consisting nearly entirely out of random shitposts found all over the internet (Yes, I’m serious, It’s all just shitposts).

The Data Smog Generation is the first part of the Online Lord series, a series of projects about living in the post-internet world. The next part, Fourth Rapture of the Internet Age!, is about growing up with the internet before experiencing the modern age, and is considered the central part in this series.
